![]() Nowadays, the robot kiosks that cut keys have degraded the tiny sliver of protection "Duplication Forbidden" provided into near uselessness. Hardware stores or cobblers (No I don't know why cobblers seem to also cut keys with some frequency) probably will care even less most of the time, with one whacko out there who will take it too seriously. If you can articulate that it's to your lock and why you have one that says "Do Not Duplicate", they'll make you a copy if they believe you and don't have some sort of policy about it. Nothing more and nothing less, and we regard it as trivial. It's there to make a responsible person making a copy ask questions. So I'm a locksmith but this isn't unethical because we talk about this all the time in r/locksmith: Do Not Duplicate, Duplication Forbidden, etc., has zero legal weight behind it. This is a preventative measure against spammers, bots and ban circumvention. Submissions made from brand new/throwaway accounts with zero/low karma will be automatically rejected.
